Healthy Living Advice from your River Oaks Apartments

The holiday season is right around the corner, and plenty of residents of our downtown Houston apartments are getting ready to attempt to stave off the pounds. Between the holiday parties on the weekends and the candy in the office at work, it’s going to be hard to stay in shape. We said hard, but we didn’t say impossible.


In the blog post below, we’ll be telling residents about some of the best healthy living tips we could come up with. Whether you’re trying to keep the pounds off during the holidays or you’re just thinking of making a few lifestyle changes with regards to your diet and exercise habits, the tips on the list below should allow you to be the healthiest version of yourself. We’re not going to tell you to completely alter your diet or start some insane workout schedule, but we are going to tell you how you can make a few small changes to your day-to-day life in the interest of healthier living.

Wake up and workout


If you could do one thing that would put you in a better mood every day, wouldn't you do it? Well folks, working out in the morning is that one thing. Not only will it boost your metabolism and help you burn more calories throughout the day, but those early morning endorphins will put you in a good mood for the rest of your morning and into the afternoon. The added benefit to working out in the morning is that you’ll be much more likely to make healthy decisions throughout the rest of your day because you won’t want to waste the healthy start!


Keep snacks handy


A lot of blogs and articles will tell you to avoid snacking if you’re trying to keep weight off, but healthy snacking can actually help you avoid massive cheat meals. If you can, keep almonds or other healthy snacks by your desk during the day. If you snack on those all morning, you’ll be much less likely to give in to the urge to get a huge lunch at the fast food spot down the road.


Make time for meditation


Stress can cause you to skip workouts, eat more than you want to, and develop unhealthy habits. A stress-free life is a healthy life. If you want to cut stress out of your life, try making time for meditation in the morning. Much like working out early in the day, a morning meditation session will set you up for a full day of good feelings.
